Frequently Asked Questions about Sub-Zero Appliances

Where is the best place to set the dial on my Sub-Zero refrigerator?

Both dials should be set at the halfway point, or on digital display refrigerators 38 degrees Fahrenheit on the refrigerator and 0 degrees Fahrenheit in the freezer. This is the most common factory and industry standard temperature setting.

If the food in my Sub-Zero is spoiling quickly should I turn up the dial on my refrigerator?

If your refrigerator cannot maintain temperature with the dial set halfway, then it has a mechanical problem and it will simply get worse if you max out the dial. Call a refrigerator repair technician.

Can I leave my Sub-Zero fridge in my vacation home running all winter long?

If the fridge were to break down when you weren’t home, a domino effect of other problems could result, especially if the cooling system failed with the doors shut and the inside fan was still running, making the food compartment very hot and putrid.

How often does a refrigerator need a Freon recharge?

Never! The Freon system of a refrigerator is constructed entirely of metal tubing and welded shut from the factory. If your refrigerator is in need of Freon, it means there is a hole in the system.

How can I best take care of my Sub-Zero ice maker?

Always dump the ice after an extended power outage. If your refrigerator has an ice dispenser, an outage can cause the ice to melt and fuse together, which can jam or break the motor. Turn the ice maker off during vacation.
